After our office closes our answering service can be reached by calling our regular office number, 650-365-1109 or directly by calling 650-617-4286.

Our answering service will direct you to staff that will help you determine if your child needs to be seen immediately at the after hours/urgent care or in the emergency room. They can also offer you advice so you can treat your child at home when appropriate.  A pediatrician from our office is always available on call to answer any of your questions and concerns. If you do not receive a call back from our physician or the triage nurse in a time frame that you are comfortable with, you should call back immediately.


Phone Advice During and After Hours:

Our doctors and medical assistants provide phone advice to our patients throughout day. We make every effort to return telephone calls as soon as possible. We will help you determine whether your child needs to be seen immediately or whether you can treat your child at home. If there is an urgent matter, please let our receptionist know so that we may better assist you.

As a courtesy to other patients, if you must cancel an appointment, please call us as soon as possible. You may also TEXT back to the message you receive from us about your upcoming appointment. Well child exams or consultations cancelled less than 24 hours before appointment time will result in a charge that is not covered by your insurance. We will charge your credit card on file for these missed appointment fees. You may cancel on this site in the contact us box, or under the appointment tab,  There is a box to add your cancellations information as well as request a new appointment. If the cancellation is for the same day or next day we do require a phone call to the office at 650-365-1109. You may TEXT us in response to the reminder you receive from us, email us at [email protected] or call our answering at 650-617-4286 24 hours a day. PRESCRIPTION REFILLS: Please call your pharmacy with any refill requests. Your pharmacy will contact us by fax for authorization of the refill. Please allow 24 hours for your request to be processed. Our fax number is 650-365-7720. For triplicate medications we require 48-72 hours notice.

School Forms:

School forms require 48 hours to complete. We ask for this time so that we do not impose a fee for completing these. We can return these by email, fax or pick up. We do not keep copies of forms in the chart. Forms may be emailed to us as [email protected].

Insurance and Billing and other policies:

We are committed to providing you with the best possible care. This goal is best achieved if everyone is aware of our financial policy, which is an agreement between our practice and the child's parent or guardian. You're clear understanding of the financial policy agreement is important to our professional relationship. Our goal is to work as partners with you at all times whether it be a clinical or billing or administrative issue. Insurance plans vary considerably, and we cannot predict or guarantee what part of the services will or will not be covered. It is the responsibility of the patient to provide accurate and timely insurance information to our office. Inaccurate and untimely information given to the staff that results in denial or non-coverage by your insurance company results in the guarantor being responsible for payment.

It is our goal to always bill and receive payment from your insurance company when ever possible.

We do require a credit card guarantee on file which can be an HSA card, Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card for services that are not covered by your insurance such as coinsurances and or increases in your copayment or amounts applied to deductible.

Health insurance is a contract between you, your employer, and your insurance company. It is important for you to be an informed consumer who understands the specifications of your insurance policy especially when it comes to well-child visits and the expected copayment for the services your child receives.

Copayment's and balances may be paid by cash, check, ATM debit with a Visa or MasterCard logo, Visa, MasterCard or Discover card, we also accept all HSA cards.

Outstanding balances are due within 30 days unless prior arrangements have been made with our billing office. We do charge a late fee on a monthly basis after the 30 days of $25 per month.

After 60 days a final request for payment letter will be issued and then if the balance is not paid within 10 days of that date it will be turned over to a collection agency and services with our office will be discontinued.

A $50 fee is charged for all returned checks and future services will be on a cash only basis or with a credit card.

We are always happy to accept payment plans as long as they are kept current and upto- date.

The accompanying parent or adult is responsible for payment for services at the time of the visit especially for copayments and balances. In the case of divorce please do not place our office in the middle of marital disputes. It is your responsibility to work out the payment of your child's medical care between the custodial noncustodial parent.

We participate in only one HMO product through Sequoia Physicians Network. Please see below, "accepted insurance Carriers.

All copayments are due at the time of service, any outstanding balances for coinsurances, deductibles, co-pay increases and non-covered services will be asked for and expected at the next visit if that is prior to our billing cycle.

We are trying our best to keep our billing costs down so that your expenses will be kept to a minimum.

Many insurances do not allow your child have an annual physical unless it least one year has passed. Some do allow one per calendar year. It is up to you to schedule these physicals appropriately and check with your insurance company for coverage and provide that information to our office especially if you have a physical scheduled prior to one year. Some literally require one year and day from the last physical in order for services to be covered.

If we do not participate with your insurance company then you are responsible for payment in full at the time of service and we will courtesy bill for you and credit you back anything that our office received as payment.

We do not bill secondary insurance plans. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to bill any secondary insurances. We are happy to provide you with an itemized receipt for any services rendered here in our office and give you an itemized receipt list for each year for tax purposes or health reimbursement anytime you require. There is no fee for this.

We do electronic billing here in our office so bills are sent to your insurance company within days of you being seen here and we will have a response from them within 24 to 48 hours.

If you are unable to provide insurance information that can not be verified at the time of service we will ask for full payment at the time of service and refund you immediately once you have provided us with covered insurance benefits.

If you have an outstanding balance and your child is here for a preventive well exam this balance must be paid prior to being seen. We have patient credits organized by family. If you think you have a credit due to you please contact us and we will credit you immediately in the form of payment that you made to our office.


For referrals our staff is prepared to send a referral to your HMO through Sequoia Physicians Network at the request of our physicians and or a specialist, we do not provide patient driven referrals without seeing our doctor first. CIGNA HMO does require a handwritten referral from our office for your specialists and we are more than happy to do that as long as enough notice is given. We do not do any retroactive referrals at our office.

Stimulant Medication Refill and Policy:

For ADHD and stimulant medications we require 24 to 48 hours notice for all refills. A three-month re-check is required on all patients on stimulant meds before a refill will be given.

Transfer of Medical Records:

When you join our practice we will help you obtain records from your previous physician; see the new patient tab above. You may also obtain records by contacting your previous MD office directly. These records are REQUIRED PRIOR to scheduling appointments with our office.

When you leave our practice, we do charge a $25 fee to transfer records to yourself or to another physician. We send you a CD of your records. Please check under our forms tab for our release policy and have the appropriate forms filled out and returned to our office for transfer medical records. We can only transfer records if our form is completed. We hold onto your child's original records for our lifetime.

We value the time we set aside to treat your child. We do not double book appointments. We do not take walk-in appointments. For walk-in appointments we will give you the next available slot with one of our open physicians or we will refer you to the closest emergency room if we are unable to accommodate your needs. We suggest ALWAYS calling ahead for an appointment. We do understand that it is frustrating if you have to wait for us when we run behind (which is very rare). It is our goal to work within the timeframe of your appointment, but sometimes things occur that we are not expecting during an appointment. Our physicians pride themselves on running on time. We ask that you be on time for your appointments so that we can respect your time and the time of those that come after you. We always do our best to call you if we are ever running behind, we always want to respect your time.

Accepted Insurance Carriers:

PPO: We accept all major PPO insurance companies. Covered California - Healthnet, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. We also accept Anthem Pathways Individual Plans.

HMO: We are affiliated with Sequoia Physician Network (SPN). Visit for more information. We also accept Cigna HMO, thru Cigna directly.

Helpful hints for our HMO patients:

The name of your child's primary care physician in our office must appear on his/her card. If the name of a physician who is not in our practice is on your card, your insurance will not pay for your visit in our office. If you wish your child to be seen in our office, you must call your insurance company and request the change prior to the appointment.

In order to see a specialist, you must notify our office so that a referral can be done in our computer system that is directly linked to Sequoia Physicians Network. You will then receive a confirmation approval in the US Mail. This process for non-urgent referrals can take 5-7 business days. Follow up appointments are done directly with the medical group by the specialist.

For Cigna HMO patients we will send a handwritten referral to the specialist. These must be done prior to being seen by the specialist.

If you have a newborn, in the case of HMOs, the baby is usually covered for the first 30 days under the mother's insurance. If the mother's primary care physician is not part of Sequoia Physicians Network, you must call your insurance to see how they will handle your baby's first visit. Some insurance companies will allow you to add the baby to Sequoia Physicians Network back to date of birth and others require you to see a pediatrician in the mother’s network until the first of the next month. This will affect whether or not your insurance will pay for the first visits to our office.


Newborns must be enrolled by the parents within 30 days of birth for coverage to go back to DOB. (see HMO exception above). If both parents enroll the child on their plan then whomever’s birthday of the parents comes first in the calendar year must serve as the primary (Ca State Law).

Privacy Policies:

It is the policy of our practice that all physicians and staff preserve the integrity and the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) pertaining to our patients. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that our practice and its physicians and staff have the necessary medical information to provide the highest quality medical care possible while protecting the confidentiality of the PHI of our patients to the highest degree possible.
